It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. -- Charles Darwin

Shalini's brother's wedding

Naomi and I posing in our saris at the wedding of Shals' brother's wedding. Shals' husband, Anand, took me shopping the Friday before the wedding to Masjid India or "little india" in Kuala Lumpur to purchase my sari. All the saris were so beautiful, I would have never known which to choose without Anand's help! Before the wedding, Nesli, Naomi and I all went over to Shals' house to have our saris tied by her auntie, who is apparently famous for her sari-tying technique.

mmmmmm pow, one of my favorite things to eat in malaysia so naturally had to try some my first afternoon in shanghai!

basically warm dough wrapped around a filling of vegetables or barbeque pork and steamed in a giant brown steamer (see picture)

Devrim likes them too. . .the perfect snack / lunch for 'on the go'

Sights and Sounds of Shanghai

walking around town, sara and danilo meet a new friend on the street

a tea house in Old Town, Shanghai
Central Plaza at People's Square, just outside the door of Devrim's DHL office

Below, shopping with Sara is never boring, especially since we take ourselves soooo seriously ;)

What a Crowd

What a great Saturday! Sara and I rode her and Claudio's bicycles all through the city like a coulple of typical Shanghainese ;)

We locked up our bikes and walked through a trendy pedestrian area to meet her boyfriend, Claudio and his Italian buddy, Danilo for lunch.

On the way, we encountered this adorable group of people that were enjoying the sunny afternoon as much as we were!

Ni Hao!

thanksgiving in asia is a little lonely, that is, unless you spend it with twenty of your closest friends from shanghai!

Selamat Hari Raya

during hari raya we went to bali, indonesia where i took my first surfing lessons

i also went scuba diving during our stay at the beach. then we went to ubud, an artistic, cultural town in the mountains where we watched a local fire dance, ate delicious indonesian cuisine, and walked through the narrow streets gazing at colorful canvases.

from ubud, we hiked to the top of ganung batur, bali's most active volcano, to watch the sunrise.

gorgeous.
