Lake Ohrid, Macedonia
Last weekend, my gorgeous French friend Alice flew in from Troyes and she joined Andy, his girlfriend, Iskra, Bruce and me on an adventure to Lake Ohrid, Macedonia.
The pictures speak for themselves. The nature was stunning.
the first day it was so cold.
it rained and we really froze.
nonetheless, shivering or not,
alice and i were determined to take a romantic cruise
on the lake on this lovely boat "Victoria"
that night it poured and poured
(Bruce and Andy in the pic below)
but the Macedonian band warmed our hearts as we drank homemade rakia (fruit brandy) ate the delicious local food (which is essentially the same as bulgarian).

despite the language barrier, we were able to communicate in Buglarin, which is fairly similiar to the local tongue. Iskra was the only native Bulgarian speaker, and a huge asset to our group. The rest of the time, Bruce, Andy, Alice and I improvised and even once someone mistakened me for a true Bulgarian because of my accent (as if!)
after dinner we sampled the Ohrid nightlife and ended up at a little jazz bar (picture below) and then later on to a crowded techno club where the dj energetically re-mixed all our favourites....including Pink Floyd and yes, Bob Sinclair, to name a few (eyyyeeaaaaaa!)
the next day we toured the nearby fortress and churches...
Bird's Eye View: what do you get when u mix a Brit, Yank, Bulgarian, and two Frogs???
